Manipur govt signs up with SJVN for 1500 MW Tipaimukh hydel project

Manipur government has signed a MoU with SJVN, a joint-venture company of government of India and government of Himachal Pradesh. The project involves setting up of a multi purpose hydro power facility with flood management functions on the river bank of Barak river in Churachandpur district of Manipur. It will form a special purpose vehicle to execute the project and now, a detailed feasibility study report is likely to be prepared. However, there are apprehension in Bangladesh on its impact on its rivers Surma and Kushiara and a large area inundation of Manipur villages.
